He was a farmer inSolebury until 1884, when he removed to New Hope and lived there untilhis death on March 2, 1898. His wife died March 2, 1897. He purchased, in1848, a farm adjoining the old Ely homestead, part of the Pownall tract,on which he lived until 1866, when he purchased and removed to that partof the original homestead, given to his grandfather, George Ely, by thelatter's father, in 1760, where he resided until his removal to New Hope.In 1867 he purchased the part of the old homestead which passed to JoshuaEly in 1760, now occupied by his grandson, George H. Ely. Isaac Ely was aprominent and successful man, active in all that pertained to the bestinterests of the section in which he lived, filling many positions oftrust.

THOMAS MAYHEW (Robert2, Simon1), third son of a Robert of Dinton, b. abt.1509, called "yeoman", is the putative father of Matthew 4 of Tisbury anddoubtless came to be a resident of the latter named parish through themarriage of his father Roberts 2 with Joan Bridmore of Tisbury. It isprobable that he inherited her estate there while the eldest son and heirretained possession of the Mayhew property in Dinton. He was buried in1590 at Tisbury. His wife Alice predeceased him in 1586.
