Sunrise South Lake Tahoe

The current news today, as concerns a wildfire at South Lake Tahoe, had me go back to my cache of old pictures. In the early 1980's, our family considered this area, our very special and total get-away from everyday routines.

As I write this today, this secluded area and National Wildlife Refuge is closed to all public due to heavy ash and smoke which is making people ill. This all stems from a fire which started about 3 miles south of our camp. And as I think of how terrible it must be for humans in the area, I also am reminded that this area is jammed with natural beauty. Tahoe, surrounded by shrubs and trees which protect the refuge area from human trespass, is snow covered much of the winter...sometimes even into the first week of spring

When wildfires are natural in cause, this is a part of the process of natural life. But in this case it appears than mans intrusion into the wilderness areas of the mountains, has sparked the flames...which means this area will be changed for decades due to human error...so I thought it appropriate to share this picture with you today as a reminder.
