Great Spangled Fritillary Speryeria cybele Well there ya go. I actually, quite by accident happened by a butterfly, which may have been paid to sit on this floral till I was done taking pictures. Gee. I wonder if this means better luck for me. Maybe I should also buy a lottery ticket and good things will happen. I am dedicating this picture to Tom Trinko, who hangs out in beautiful coastal California.. and just happens to take some real good pictures. I heard a rumor he might be on a sabbatical of sorts. Too bad. His contributions have been wonderful and if he is gone for a while, we shall all miss him. I know nothing about butterflies so asked my won expert Angybone for her best guess. If anyone has a correction or different notion, please let me know. The flowers are a variety, which I am told, were planted by a Romanian "traveler" who stopped by this field and dumped a few bags of bird seed and other such things. For a bit the bags were also there...but destroyed by a couple years of snow and summer heat. It is an empty lot, otherwise known as "the dumping ground". And while it may seem like a lousy spot for viewers of Botanika, the macro shows otherwise. |
