Killdeer and Eggs

There are good days...and bad days...and a lot of in
between days. Today was a good day to be a photographer. I saw this bird a few
days ago, but it was too fast for me. Then I found through a neighbor that it
had a nest in a location which people usually frequent...so the neighbor put
some rocks around it to guard the nest with eggs. It is so totally unlike me to go out of my way to take pics of birds...I have no macro "stuff"... I am still stuck with a Nikon-alike and a Leica, neither of which have any macro lens, so I did the best I could with this Nikon 85mm portrait lens. Not exactly what it is made for but Thom...if you know of him, said it is the best lens Nikon has ever made...so I have kept it for years.... I was concerned I was bothering the poor mother as she watched over her eggs. My young and beautiful wife of 41 years assured me that she would let me know by displaying her wings when I entered too closely...which she did. Eventually the father came along to see if he could help her get rid of me...I think he told her I was an amateur. So she was bold now by her small significant other and made sure I left. I grabbed a picture of him as well...a smaller one in the upper left side. He looked like he wasn't going to hit me just because I had invaded and his wife told him to. So I went...of course. What else was there for me to do...but I thanked them and I am sure their children will someday hear of me... |
