Yellowjacket or yellow-jacket is the common name in North America for wasps of
the genera Vespula and Dolichovespula. I am not particularly fond of these insects. I have written no songs about them...in truth, the only thing I associate with yellowjacket is Benadryl. For some reason, and this reason is usually dismissed as fear sense by the bee, but is not attributable in science to a persons pheromone and has never been proven to be..."so bee it"...bees in general, seem attracted to me. Reality is they only appear to me, that I am their choice...for I am not the only one stung....as many here will more than likely testify to. Zoom macro makes is 'somewhat' possible, this time of year, to get a bit closer than I normally would to the yellow jacket. What may be a "wonder of nature" to the clinical mind is a pest to most...and believe this....The larvae are carnivorous so the adults fly around scavenging for food...and when you get in their way, they seem to know they have the upper hand. They actually hang onto you by biting you and holding while they sting. Talk about psychopaths. And in late summer, when water is not as plentiful, springs and streams running dry...they intuit that this is the end of their cycle and they go completely berserk, biting and stinging anything that moves...even dogs and cats...although my Husky-Malamute shrugged it off as play. |
